Foxhound legislation passes Pennsylvania House (1/30/2004)

Legislation that would allow foxhound training preserves in Pennsylvania has passed the House and needs sportsmen's support as it advances to the Senate.

House Bill 1448, sponsored by Rep. Edward G. Staback, D-Archbald-Eynon, authorizes the Pennsylvania Game Commission to issue permits for foxhound training preserves. They are similar to beagle clubs, where sportsmen can train their hounds for the hunt. It also allows the use of foxes for training. The bill passed the House of Representatives, 115 to 81. It awaits debate in the Senate Committee on Game and Fisheries.

Pennsylvania houndsmen's groups expressed a need for such a facility. Sportsmen worked closely with Rep. Staback to develop and introduce HB 1448, which also includes many suggestions from the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

Take Action! Pennsylvania sportsmen should contact their senators and ask them to support HB 1448. Tell them that the bill would provide sportsmen with a safe and effective way to train their hunting dogs.
