Bill will reinstate trapping in Massachusetts (11/7/2003) Massachusetts sportsmen are urged to support legislation that would reestablish recreational trapping. The bill would reverse a 1996 voter-approved trapping ban. House Bill 4283, sponsored by Rep. Mark Carron, D-Worcester, repeals the section of law that prohibits the use of leghold traps. Currently, only federal and state health departments may use traps if there is a threat to human health and safety. Reestablishing recreational trapping opportunities in Massachusetts will allow sportsmen to control furbearer populations. Through license fees, it will also bring additional revenue to the Inland Fish and Game Fund, which pays for conservation in Massachusetts. House Bill 4283 awaits action in the House Joint Committee on Natural Resources and Agriculture. Take Action! Call your state representative today and ask him to vote "yes" on HB 4283. Tell him or her that trapping is a safe and humane wildlife management tool. CopyrightÓ U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance- www.ussportsmen.org
