Trailblazer adventure program receives multi-state grant (11/15/2002)

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation recently received a grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to help fund its Trailblazer Adventure Program.  The Trailblazer program is designed to recruit new families to take part in outdoor sports.

With this grant, Trailblazer has the capability of introducing tens of thousands of families to outdoor sports each year and maintaining their interest by keeping them involved through the Trail Master mentoring program.

The International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (IAFWA) administers the USFWS’s Multi-State Grant program.  It distributes monies collected from sales tax on outdoor sporting goods.  The grants are awarded to agencies and groups that demonstrate how their project will positively affect the outdoor community in a large portion of the country.

The Trailblazer Adventure Program is an outdoor education program created by the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation in conjunction with Boy Scouts of America, IAFWA and the International Hunter Education Association.

The program is designed to involve families in outdoor activities including shooting, archery and fishing.  Trailblazer offers them the chance to engage in these activities during a one-day introduction and a yearlong Trail Master mentoring program.
